Faculty Promotion Reviews, Offers, and Reappointments

Getting Started

Vanderbilt University manages most faculty review processes, including the faculty offer process, as well as the promotion and tenure process, through an online secure system called Interfolio.

Faculty Searches are managed through Interfolio Faculty Search.

All other faculty review work is managed through Interfolio Review, Promotion & Tenure.

You must apply for access for the Interfolio products, as well as the Faculty Information System. All access requests for these two faculty systems must be initiated by completing this security form.

Faculty Information System FIS

Access to the Faculty Information System FIS is required in order to create or update a faculty member’s record. Additionally, it is also required in order to INITIATE important review workflows in Interfolio Review Promotion and Tenure (RPT),Ìýsuch asÌýa(n):

  • Faculty Offer Request,Ìýtenure stream (TT/T)
  • New Faculty Appointment upon signed offer,Ìýtenure stream (TT/T)
  • Faculty Offer Request and Appointment,Ìýfull time,Ìýnon tenure track (NTT)
  • promotion with tenure
  • promotion to full professor
  • promotion to university distinguished professor
  • promotion, review, and reappointment,Ìýfull time,Ìýnot on the tenure track (NTT)
  • pre-tenure review (2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 6th year review)
  • recommendation for the award of Emerita/us status (as of 10/1/2020)
  • recommendation for the award and renewal of an Endowed Chair, Chancellor Faculty Fellow, or Dean’s Faculty Fellow (as of 9/25/2020)
  • reappointment requests

Access to the Faculty Information System is limited and requires approval by your supervisor and the Office of Faculty Affairs. Access will not be granted to student workers.

    • This demonstrates what an External Evaluator can expect to see when they receive an external evaluation request. It moves step-by-step through accepting, declining, and uploading the evaluation. Additionally, they now have the ability to upload their biographies.
    • When requesting external evaluations, you should include language in your request to the evaluator that links out to this helpful tutorial.ÌýFor example, “If you would like to view a brief video tutorial on accepting (or declining) and submitting an external evaluation in Interfolio, please followÌý.â€
